SysAdmin Apprecation Day

July 30th, 2010

Hey Ya’ll,

it’s SysAdmin appreciation day. you’d better appreciate your SysAdmins…otherwise, they’ll shut down your systems, turn your email box into a spam-trap, and tell the FBI that you’re investigating “patriotically questionable websites”

in the interested of being appreciated, I will be leaving early. Actually, it’s because of an Angel’s game. Go Angels!

Movin on up…

June 30th, 2010

Yesterday ends the 2 year period of living back at home with my parents. That’s right, I’ve finally moved out.

It was a pretty simple move, just down the street really, and I had many friends who came and helped me move all my stuff. Toward the end of moving I ended up having too much stuff, and no organized way to get it moved, so my wonderful friends helped me fill “boxes o’ crap” (patent pending) and move it on over.

I really do love my new place. Firstly, having your own space is just awesome. Secondly, I’m very lucky to move in with my best friend Kevin! Having lived with 2 of my other best friends previously, it was time to finally live with Kevin.

We’ve dubbed our apartment the “House of Blues (Brothers)” in tribute to our Halloween costumes this past year. We’re gonna have a pretty sweet setup, and once the website is online (HouseOfBluesBros.Org) you can check it out.  (Streaming “Party Cam”, Jukebox controls, all kinds of fun stuff).

Hopefully having my own space will be helpful toward getting some projects finished (or started for that matter). In the meantime, I get to unpack those boxes! yayyyyy!

and…Jailbreak!

June 1st, 2010

Almost 2 month’s ago I finally gave in and bought an iPod touch. I have held out against the whole Apple products for a long time, but finally realized that an iTouch was exactly what I needed in my geek arsenal. Having had a Dell axon for 8 years, it was finally time to upgrade to something more powerful, modern, an versatile.
Enter the iTouch. A device with 64Gb of space, plenty of power, a gorgeous touch screen, and of course no monthly fee. Having help out for over a year hoping an Android phone would come out that I liked, I went with an iTouch since it fit the bill better. There’s a few gripes I had about the device, that is until Spirit came out to jailbreak my 3.1.3 iTouch (it came preloaded with he latest firmware which until this point couldn’t be jailbroken).
What’s amusing to me is how many little things jailbreaking lets me do on the device that I would have expected Apple to allow in the first place. But that’s Apple, gorgeous proprietary hardware, that’s often overpriced a d locked down. True iPhoneOS 4 comes out soon and allows some of the features seen on jailbroken devices, but the true innovation still comes from the minds of those hackers who started jailbreaking. I for one do not plan on upgrading to OS 4 until I’m sure it can be set free.
